5 Reasons Why I'm Headed Home...

Picture
In a few short weeks I’ll be arriving back in Nashville--maybe for good. Words I never thought would come out of my mouth.

The reality is I don’t know how long I’ll stick around. I’ve had an amazing journey these past 5 years, and, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you never know where your walk will lead next.

But there are some very real reasons why Sam and I are traveling back right now…

  1. I miss being around my people: The west coast has been amazing. Filled with gorgeous views, long, beautiful drives, and some life-changing experiences. Yet, it’s time to be around those who I haven’t gotten to see enough of these past 5 years.
  2. I’ve changed and I want to see what it’s like to be different in my hometown: I’ve grown so much in the last half-decade. How I talk, how I love, the way I exist in the world. You could say I am both something new and exactly the same--it’s time to see what it’s like to be Charlie back in Nashville.
  3. I want to take Sam to Pawpaw’s farm: There’s a piece of property outside Nashville on Jones Creek. It’s about 20 acres of what used to be my Pawpaw’s farm. The place I spent so many awesome summer days. I can’t wait to share it with little Sam--my girl who would rather run in the mud than almost anything.
  4. I’ve got some East Coast adventures planned: A Braves game, a trip to Charleston to see one sister and Boston to see another. I’ve got some important things to do that’ll be easier from a southern town.
  5. I want to kiss my mom on the cheek every day for a month: maybe this one sounds sappy, but the older I get the more I realize I won’t have Mom and Dad forever. I want to spend some quality time with them (and maybe enjoy their gorgeous new lake house, as well :)

I’ll never forget something my Dad said to me right before I left for Seattle, “are you ready to be a bedouin for a while?”

A Bedouin is an Arab traveler, moving animals and goods across deserts for months on end. Never with a home, but always discovering a new place to stay.

My Dad was right. I have been a bit of a Bedouin these past few years--and maybe I’ll always be.

But for now it’s time for this lonely traveler to head back to the place this all began.

Time will only tell what great adventure will come next.
